    true steve...but its a huge market....the main produce (and much more) market in town....with hundreds of stall holders and thousands of customers each day....it will be very disruptive for the stallholders and community at large

    Apparently no one died in it, which is extremely lucky..

    I also just read that "A few years ago the Nongbone/That Luang market burned down also in the middle of the night. At that time it was indicated by the local population that a Vietnamese company was going to build the That Luang Shopping Center in that location and that is indeed what is happening at the moment so it might also be a quick way to "clear a site" to make a fast buck" as Vientiane is having a building boom on Chinese money currently.

    No life lost makes me think it was planned as there must have been quite a few people normally sleeping in there.
    Never found it very useful as a tourist but a huge loss for Vientiane.
