    Egypt the New Greece?

Not in the going bust sense but greece used to be the default destination for cheap sun and now a lot of those folk seem to be heading to Egypt. Only anecdotally, but I have spoken to half a dozen people in the last week or so who are going to Egypt for winter breaks rather than the Balearics or Greece.

To my simple mind this is exactly where Greece should have been when the wheels came off in Europe. Instead of being stuck with interest and currency rates more appropriate to Germany they could have watched the arse fall out of the Drachma and cleaned up as a tourist destination.

Maybe it's just me, but I would not go to Egypt if all expenses were paid, and they paid me on top of that.

^Mrs said she'd love to see the pyramids, but is content to see them on tv for exactly the same reasons.

The numbers of Belgian tourists going to Greece for holidays this summer are way up. Egypt went down a lot.

I've only been to see the pyramids... well worth it. But I have more friends now who have been to Egypt for beach holidays, rather than Greece or Spain. In fact I don't know anyone personally apart from myself who has been on holiday to Greece in the last 15 years... but loads go to Egypt... especially a lot of single women in their 20 and 30's....

Probably my only reason to go there would be to dive in the Red Sea. Seen the Pyramids enough on TV. Meh
