Taking revenge for an argument that began on the dance floor, a suspect shot two teenage farmers in Preah Vihear province with a homemade gun that fires ball bearings, killing one, a police officer said on Tuesday.
Deputy provincial police chief Keo Chamroeun said the shooting on Monday night followed a dispute at a party that all three had attended in the village of Kloat in Chheb district’s Sangke II commune.
The pair is thought to have bumped into the suspect while dancing, Mr. Chamroeun said.
“This is an act of revenge, because the victims had an argument while dancing,” he said.
The suspect attacked Chhun Ry, 17, and Vann Vai, 18, as they were walking home about 1 km from the party site, he said, and a patrolling officer later found the pair lying in a pool of blood.
Chhun Ry died at the provincial referral hospital while Mr. Vai suffered serious injuries and was being treated at the same hospital.
Mr. Chamroeun said police were searching for the alleged shooter, whom he declined to identify.
