The Takeo Provincial Court on Wednesday postponed the questioning of five CNRP commune candidates over a complaint from a CPP commune official until after Sunday’s elections, a court official said, following a request from the five.
Video footage from May 20 shows a shouting CNRP member calling CPP rivals “stupid” and accusing the CPP of murdering people.
Pich Chhim, deputy head of the CPP in Koh Andet district’s Prey Khla commune, where the incident took place, filed a complaint to the court, which last week issued a summons for the five to appear for questioning over alleged defamation, public insults and incitement to commit a felony.
Mam Saroeun, one of the five candidates, described the complaint against them as “incorrect.”
“I believe this complaint was intended to prevent my party from joining the election campaign,” he said.
Ms. Chhim, the plaintiff, could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.
Court spokesman Phann Sopheak said Ms. Chhim and witnesses were questioned on Wednesday and the defendants would be summoned after the election.
