    Cambodian politics and protests 2014

I know this probably interests less people on here than the Thai ones.. But one thread to post updates and how the situation is evolving is better.

HS is obviously facing the strongest test to his leadership in a long long time. And a modern world will see authoritarian clampdowns in a different way than they would have done decades past.

Jeez, when are the regular Cambodian people going to get a break? One oppressive regime after another keeping them poor in order to cling to power and brutally putting down any signs and thoughts or progress towards real freedom and democracy. That must bring some horrible memories of the 1970s back for some.

Hun Sen got a hold of power after the whole pol pot era and has kept a hold on it since with an iron fist....he's in it for himself, as corrupt as hell, holds the Cambodian people in contempt, has the military and police thugs firmly behind him and he won't go down without civil war....Thailand is a box of cookies in comparison

Certainly, you can see the fear of the anti Thaksin people, when you look at how a one party system can evolve under what is supposed to be a 'democratic' one.

yep....and in reverse the reaction of the pro-Thaksin folks when their hard fought election win is turned around and given back to the "ruling class" status quo yet again
