There was a lot of chatter about this when I was there a few weeks ago, but it appears at the moment their fervent need for development will tolerate no obstacles. While I was there for work I was offered a tour of a newly completed big 'western' styled mall right next to one of my employers hotels in Phnom Penh, the Aeon Mall is apparently a Japanese concern. First thing I noticed about the place was the amount of Range Rover, Lexus, Cayenne, BMW & Benz 4WDs in the car park

There was a news piece on it that I saw this week, not sure if it's the same lake but it showed them clearing the housing with a 'dozer; pretty ruthless. As said, nothing is going to be allowed to get in the way by the look of it.

The lakes wont be totally gone as you see them disbursed all over the city after a heavy rain, causing traffic jams as those high end vehicles were purchased with out the "amphibious" options.
