    Beautiful designs

Design can be beautiful, inspiring and creating. Seeing something beautiful is enriching.
Starting this thread as a window into beautiful designs. Beginning with furniture / interior, but it does not necessarily have to be just that, while I would not want it to be a thread about "fat" big musscle cars or Construction sites

Perhaps not exactly what you asked, but for me the VW mini bus is about the most sleek and poetic design of any vehicle ever constructed. All sci-fi spacecrafts included. Wind resistance be damned.

They still made them in Brazil until not so many years ago, they are all over the place. (albeit the 70s look). This is probably a 2005

    My watch..

When it first dropped, they were on seriously limited release, I walked into the Amsterdam rolex dealer in my construction gear, timbos covered in concrete dust, carhart jacket etc and asked what the score was how many Holland would be getting.. For a start the sales guy first ignored me for 10 minutes.. then was snooty to me.. Didnt want to give a price, told me bluntly there was a waiting list and when I asked how many on the list, he just said "no the list is only for preferential customers" with a 'you cant buy it' attitude and just walked off..

2 weeks later I walked in in the same site gear and had him adjust the strap and fit mine properly for me !! Not only that but they were selling them over list and I got mine for 10% under list and tricked the VAT off so a 30% saving on list and about 40% cheaper than their retail.

Dont tell me I cant do something (with an attitude)..

I snaveled an ELO on a trade with my dad back about 30 years ago when I did my first house for myself....he had it in his study but rarely used it and when I was out and about with him one time he was admiring something a bit more modern.....so I offered to buy it for him and switch the Eames out....he went for it 555.....but he has been reminding me for about the last 15 years or so that I swindled him since they have become popular again and are featured in magazines etc 555

I could live in one of these they are so comfortable....to me the best reclining chair ever designed...and one possession I actually do miss

If that had an attachment arm on the side to mount a laptop on that would swing in front of you, I'd probably buy one.

    Edit:

    Something like this.

I'd say that would be a Chinese copy Rob...even they are comparatively expensive as the bending of the ply which can only be done by hand turned press and the frame take lots of work

a proper Eames lounger + ottoman would probably cost around 150-160K

The London Design museum is not far from where I work , here are 2 examples of products that won "Designs of the Year 2013" awards.

First , the furniture award - Medici Chair

The "Product of the Year" award shows how design isn't just about looks but also practicality.

While working in rural Zambia, British aid worker Simon Berry noticed that while basic medicine could be hard to find, no village was too remote to be reached by bicycle-transported Coca-Cola. So he started the ColaLife charity and worked with design consultantsPI Global to create an anti-diarrhoea kit, Kit Yamoyo, that fits in the empty spaces between the bottles.
