Putting his faith in the Thai justice system is a big call right now, wouldn't want to be in his place.

The Thai Navy already made their move by pressing charges against the journalists...My understanding of Thai style is that there is no way in Hell they will stand to lose face and retract the charges...and as much as this is in my opinion this is all wrong..the navy will continue to try and make scapegoats of these people....

I fear the above is highly possible.. And hes gambling 7 years jail on fighting it..

The facts of the story are bizarre too.. A reuters story which wins a pulitzer prize, he quotes a few lines, and they dont chase reuters, they chase him.. May as well chace google for republishing it, or anyone in the chain.. Of course the fact he exposed the Military to be involved in Rohingya smuggling, and exposed the pushbacks when they denied they were doing it is dangerous.. But its the crazy libel laws and the fact that no one in authority will stop digging the hole bigger and bigger.

And They will have their chance in court to admit their guilt and apologise..and usually with that, as we have seen many times here, all is forgiven...In this case however, the journalists claim, and I agree, there is nothing to admit and apologise for...which makes it more likely that they will be punished..
The navy won't waste their time going after the other big journal associations listed above...The PWan journalists are easy pickings.
It would be nice if Head Honcho Prayuth would realize how stupid this is making the country look and step in and flip it all off.

He might not be that popular but just seems very harsh to me....

Hopefully at worst he will get blacklisted or reach some sort of deal as dealing with the monkey house in Thailand with the cramp conditions etc.. for someone of that age would definitely be a fcukin nightmare!

Its fantastic news...and finally some sanity prevails...however the persecution in bringing these charges against these two through this trial has been merciless...Its been a huge punishment and deterrent to report negative news against the establishment in itself

Indeed, it is good and just news.

Royal Navy couldn't go after Reuters, so....

On a similar note...perhaps the Phuketwan staff would like to do a follow up on this report? 5555

Air force raps US trip reports | Bangkok Post: news

The air force has threatened legal action against those it says spread false rumours about a training trip to the US.
Alaska to Travis AFB is not exactly on the way back to Thailand.

Funny thing is, the Officer gets mugged and shot while touring San Francisco..."Welcome to the U.S.A."

Maybe shot by an illegal alien? 555

Yes, two years of threats and persecution is a walk in the park. No doom and gloom there.

Yes because the military tried to persecute them and failed in the courts.. The same judicial oversight that has been removed for article 44.. that shows the military is doing good ??

Great news for PW.. It looked good when the prosecution mounted no case as such but still a huge relief for the 2 of them.

If people think they have a valid case, they'll take you to court. This time the Navy was wrong and lost. So it ended way better than you predicted.

Erm.. missed the article 44 bit ?? No one can hold them to account..

Also defamation is a odd law here.. you dont need to demonstrate someone lied about you, you must only show you were 'caused harm even if by the truth.. In this way this exact same law could have found them guilty.. It wasnt the Navy was wrong and lost, it simply becomes politicized and a random gamble.
