    The Chinese takeout in US

I am in NYC on biz and after a night of drinking i want 10lbs of food for 15usd......The Chinese Takeout!

It is an institution in America.....at least in the Northeast.

But it is the strangest dynamic of a restaurant-customer I have ever seen.
Both the staff and customer genuinely despise each other!
And no one has the moral highground......

    Another oddity.
These places are pullng down thousands a night but if all the staff don't sleep in one rat infested room together......i'd be shocked.

It really is one of the weirdest most satisying dynamics you could ever witness
And to me.......even doubly weird......it is as synonomous with growing up as a Red Sox in the culture!

We were driving back to Nashville from Destin last year. The kids were hungry and wanted to stop. We drove past a Chinese restaurant/laundromat in Opp, Alabama and they were begging me to stop. I made them wait another couple of hours until we got to Birmingham...No fucking way I was eating in there.

Get out there in the game, don't sit up in the bleachers. That is the philosophy of pimps and preachers.

Restaurant / laundromat? Hmmm, how many ways could that go wrong? 555
It's odd, but this sounds like an East coast thing. I've had Chinese take-out all along the West coast, and the people are always exceptionally nice and happy to have the business. I'm glad we don't see as much of the fluorescent red sweet 'n sour sauce anymore tho.

The UK has 'chinkys' and they were nothing like as good as US chinese takeaways (love the cartons too).. But as a kid I remember chow meins and jumbo spring rolls with fondness.. Had one when back in the UK maybe 2 years ago and was horrifed how oily and awful it was..

Now quality indians however.. Those are just as good as I remember back in the UK.
