    Left or Right Wing?

This is quite an interesting subject to me because of the fissure in the United States.Right or left.

You either agree with my viewpoint or we won't get along?

What happened to all those in the middle (probably majority)

What about those in completely different societies....how do we say they are left or right?

Well as Dawsey has said.. plenty of us living in the UK that have been conservative voters for a long time.. but we don't feel the same sense of right wing as the US version... maybe the "centre" is in a different place here?

It's me who labels you dumb sometimes

Do I think you are dumb? Having met you no

But you certainly do seem to be behind a lot in these debates and don't seem to grasp what is actullay being talked about at times
Nothing to do with your views

And maybe it seems that way because you don't log on except for seemingly weekends so you are actually behind on what has transpired and are catching up

I don't expect you to but if you go through all the posts I guarantee you that I have agreed with righties on here way more than they ever have

But on a whole yes there is a political divide that isn't going to be fixed for quite some time or ever in the US

What happened to those, not necessarily in the middle, with significant liberal views on some issues and significant conservative views on other issues?

I’ve always found that to be an interesting discussion. Of course, in my group there were mostly actual Communists or Socialists… so I was the right-leaning one 555. In fact, I’ve always been a firm believer in capitalism --- mom-and-pop capitalism, that is --- not the corrupted beast we’re seeing today.

So that leaves me in limbo as well. Not sure exactly where the center of gravity is or even where it should be.

But yes, an extremely important point about the vanishing middle, as well as the population becoming more tribal. Which is the great paradox, since the almost infinite access of information and technology should make us smarter. But I am not so sure that is actually the case.

Seems to me that unfettered access to all information, fake and real, is the catalyst. The Right seems to be the least capable of the distinction

Take it from those who actually have experience on the matter. It's actually a fascinating and well-written Wired story... from Macedonia 555. And how these guys made money from taking advantage of fake news, and the gullibility of certain voter groups. This stood out though:

Boris developed a routine. Several times a day he dredged the internet for pro-Trump articles and copied them into one of his two websites; if JavaScript prevented an easy copy-paste, he opened a Notepad file and typed the articles out. After publishing a piece, he shared the link in Facebook groups with names like My America, My Home; the Deplor*ables; and Friends Who Support President Donald J. Trump.

Trump groups seemed to have hundreds of thousands more members than Clinton groups, which made it simpler to propel an article into virality. For a week in July, he experimented with fake news extolling Bernie Sanders. “Bernie Sanders supporters are among the smartest people I’ve seen,” he says. “They don’t believe anything. The post must have proof for them to believe it.”

No doubt the Trumptards are more zealous on the Social Media than ever. And ingesting anything pro Trump and anti Liberal. For fun I set up a political text group with some of my closest childhood friends that stay in touch. It got ugly. One of my friends is insanely zealous. I had to shut him down with personal attacks. They are begging me to remove them from the group cuz they don't don't know how themselves...55

I would say it's not support for Trump that inspires them as much as anti Liberal motivations. They really abhor having to practice political correctness when out in public. They really miss the good ole days when you could call a fag a fag. And a nigger a nigger. And not be shunned by society.

Though I can't imagine anyone on here would think like that?

Let me rephrase that. I don't mean they would actually call/accuse/say it to anyone's face. But in private conversations within a social setting. Amongst a group of friends and acquaintances.

Do you think anyone on here would think like that though? I can't see it... even Pablo for all his bravado on here I can't imagine him saying it... unless drunk and pissed off... and only then to annoy the person he is with... 55

Geir did a post in the other thread about the song One in a Million and how it supposedly was a perfect example of political correctness gone mad. As I recall, other members of the band did not want to include the song in the first place, as they considered it homophobic and racist. I’m guessing that they did not want to associate themselves with such ugly sentiments.

Yes, people should be free to express their sentiments and opinions freely. However ugly. Unless it gets really personal, in which case defamation laws would kick in. But other people are of course equally free to express disgust against those same sentiments and calling them out. Homophobia and racism have caused untold misery for so many individuals over so many years. So I will still exercise my right to shame them whenever I can. Belittle them even. In my experience, bigots are usually the most cowardly folks around, so not easy to get them on record 555. Bottom line, free speech works both ways.
