US swimmer Diana Nyad, 64, makes Cuba-Florida crossing

64 years old. 53 hours. 110 miles. "Never Give Up".

    What an achievement.

Endurance swimmer Diana Nyad has become the first person to swim from Cuba to the US without a shark cage.

After about 53 hours' non-stop swimming, the 64-year-old American reached Key West, Florida, escorted by boats and her team of 35 people.
Ms Nyad, who left a Havana yacht club early on Saturday, had vowed this would be her last attempt to cross the 110-mile (177km) wide Florida Straits.

The shark part was easy. They saw her and said: Old meat, no thanks!

True she didn't have a shark cage....but.... she did have a team of shark divers and box jelly experts with equipment to ward them off. She had a team of 35 around her.

I can remember her trying this since I was a child. I'm glad she finally did it!

(Probably, somewhere, a Cuban is screaming "I did that 50 years ago with my cousin Flaco! And we were wearing polyester leasure suits!!).

Yes. Unfortunatelly they could not come out as they didn't have a green card.

After a few years in 'Murica, they no longer called him Flaco.
