Unhappy Soi Eric - Near death

As the title says Soi Eric has one foot in the grave.

Over half the bars are now closed with everything from Bachelor Bar (next to MTB) closed. It has been like a domino effect that sarted from the end of the soi and is creeping toward the front like a flesh eating disease.

Just prepare yourselves for a shock if you are planning on visiting soon.

Are overall visitor numbers down, or just drinkers numbers, or simply moved to new tiger etc..

Its not like those bars were / are cheap leases and rents.

I have to think the ever increasing drink / lady drink / bar fine costs (which were needed for ever increasing key money) has to have had an effect in pushing monger punters to Patts / PI / etc.

Patong has only just quietened down for low season, actually been as busy as i've ever seen it but obviously the demographic has altered greatly.

New Tiger is still busy and has 'Borg'ed all the talent so i don't think it is a price thing as Soi Eric was/is similar prices to what it was 5 years ago.

yeah...had a few visits last month...was like a morgue from MTB back...actually MTB was like a morgue as well...just Ead and Rose sitting there looking glum

the good news is that the bars towards the front now have more good looking gals in them than I have ever noticed...walked out with a cracker twice from the place old Noi (ex MTB) is now working in

As for New Tiger...meh....I just don't get it...hundreds of gals on yabba and a continual rude push for LD's....I'm over that sort of Thailand

I don't recall Soi Easy and Gonzo ever being busy except for the odd day back in 2003, 555. Goran's Boom Boom bar seems to be doing alright in Gonzo, imo.

Certainly an end of an era with Soi Eric closing down. Hopefully from the ashes something bigger and better than New Tiger comes from it.

I always hated the music in Eric, but spent a lot of time in MTB during the 5 years I lived in Patong.......Used to be a good place to meet BM friends

I think this is the nail on the head, a different demographic. It's been noticeable over the past few years, more backpackers / Bali refugees and far more families.

If my travelling buddy didn't insist I wouldn't go. Bangkok, Pattaya and Udon have more appeal to me these days.

I spent way to much time on Bangla in my 5 years of being a bar owner there, and feel no reason to go back. I still like to "barcrawl" Patong during daytime and then end up spending the nights in expat sort of bars in Nanai.

Had 3 nights at songkran there, was nice to see Nels and Hobbsy and a pity Bill was away on a 'business' trip to Philipines

Soi Eric the end of an era and a very sad demise. Quite enjoyed the new Tiger but diddn't enjoy the unbelievable high end BKK nightclub prices. Is one soi a good enough reason to go to Patong? Fuck no!!!

I've been saying all this stuff for years and been getting batted down for it...........well the horrible truth has arrived. If this is what progress is for Patong then goodbye and good riddance

Hopefully some of the Phuket based guys I know can make the effort to visit in BKK or Pattaya or elsewhere outside Thailand
