Not a bad 9000 dollar house...

    Steve's Thailand Dome Home - SteveAreen.com

A 'dome home' built up in Chiang Kong.. For 270k THB built in 6 weeks and pretty liveable..

He also reckons they could do compressed earth blocks for substantially less build cost.

Personally I would want to make the main dome a bit bigger to have a more real kitchen and eating space / dining table.. Or add a 3rd 'side dome' where he has just bathroom and bedroom. But if you scaled up from his 46.5 sqm to maybe 60 it should be easily possible to support that.

American in Nong Khai Builds Himself Cheap Dome Home

Given the (lack of) size of the house he could have also got more clever on storage space, under bed space wasted etc..

Any niggles aside tho, thats a proper dwelling for 9k USD total, 6k for structure and 3k for finishing.. I spend over that for rent each year.

Located somewhere between Who'ville and Smurf city? 55

Actually very cool IMO, and like you said LIL, double the size and and pay maybe 20k?
I do fear that with my lifestyle, at the bottom of those dodgy teak stairs is where they would find my broken body though...

And 9k is what I pay every TWO months (with tax and ins). Fook me, I've lost the plot.

Yeah I would totally lose the rooftop sala idea.. Looks like an idea you think up then never go up there.. Plus given the uber low build cost the stairs look like they cost a bit of that..

Possibly help to keep the sun off tho, I would be concerned about single skin block building no matter how much he claims the open top dome ventilates.

Still I keep coming back to how much of a budget he managed it on..

Very impressive. That size could never be comfortable with more than one person, however. Still, it does look great ....and so clean and bright.

Very cool, can't help wondering if there's a toliet in that bathroom or not tho; not seeing one in the pictures so maybe mains sewage is a bit of a problem?

I love the design though, very liveable.

That's problem solved then! I'ts a little minimalist for my slightly messy life but, with plumbing worries settled, I could live like that; very cool.

It's nice but waaay too small in my view and after a few weeks also impractical.

So is his aim to role these out nationwide?
