    The movie industries napster

How simple can it get ??

    What an app !!

    https://popcorntime.io/

I just tested the desktop version a little... The major releases all were fast enough to stream the 1080p version after the few seconds it took to get the buffers filled.

Android app working but on my fireTVs has some remote (button mapping) issues.. With a mouse input its fine but I suspect it will solve the issues. Open source means this should be easy to get it fixed.

Try it.. Its has everything bar live TV channels.. For mainstream movies and shows its a wrapper interface that does it all for you !! Indexes, cover art, finds the best sources, and handles the download and playback.. It really cant get much easier.

When I get some testing debug time I will try the android play versions of the remote controls.. For tablet control of the app.

Movie piracy app Popcorn Time thinks it can thwart a shutdown

Decentralized.. P2P.. Open source.. Pretty nuts.

I think maybe your missing the fact that this is the interface created based on popularity.. so always will be mainstream top of the list.. this isnt what you have downloaded or watched.

Simple idea but quite good technically that they can pull it off (since torrents are pieces you _normally_ receive in a random order, and you'd only have partial files to play, and playing partials depends on the file format - maybe why they're sticking to YIFY h264).

I probably have the same (or less) computing knowledge as your mum. But why would you need a VPN? You are not actually downloading files are you?

It's also a complete knock off of the Spotify interface. But that's a good thing.

Your torrenting yes.. when you close the app (unless you check the checkbox in settings) the file is deleted.. but while the app is open your not only downloading, but uploading too.. A la any torrent app.

The movie industry is already freaking out about this app.. And its gaining huge user levels.. I would bet that people in the US and maybe other western countries will get cease and desists and court threats because of this.

My mum being such a worryier.. the few bucks for the VPN service would simply be peace of mind.. She would freak out at the idea of a court letter.

^ As long as my ISP (Virgin) isn't blocking the site, I'll use it. When the eventual block comes, its VPN time

This is the beauty of it.. there is no 'site' its simple a collection of apps bundled together to give the appearance of one interface, while it collects the torrents, ranks them, links the cover art to existing databases, etc etc..

Even the app itself is open source, and can be distributed even updated via P2P systems..

There is no site to take down.. There is no part of the app itself which is content sharing.. Its using industry standard protocols like torrents, which clearly are legal, to link to other torrent sites and users.. Its a real legal headache for the industry.

I'm not sure many VPN services would want you transferring GBs of data in and out of their network? Or do some not mind, maybe due to their cost?

Also seems the MPAA has been dealing with them in the past https://torrentfreak.com/mpaa-pulls-...github-140711/

They have a VPN built in to a company that not them and in no way partnered to them, for legal reasons..

    Again, its just designed right.
