    Guy Martin for Top Gear?

Interesting story today that it might well happen, bookies are saying 5/2 with Jodie Kidd getting the eye candy slot. That looks like a winning line up to me.

I assume he means along with Chris Evans and Jodie Kidd. A new trio to replace the old trio.

I'll let him off if that's the case. Just seemed odd not to mention Chris Evans at all... especially as Guy Martin was thought to be the favorite to be the main presenter when Clarkson was first fired...

Isn't Evans saying he is holding auditions for the roles though?

Yeah but he's not said if it's for a permanent slot or a one off has he?, publicity stunt most likely, the new show will get panned regardless if it's any good or not. I hope it works but I can't even listen to his radio show for more than 5 minutes before he gets on my thrupenny bits.

Guy Martin turns down Top Gear
It's official. Guy Martin, has turned down the opportunity to present the BBC’s Top Gear.

Speaking exclusively to Commercial Motor magazine, Martin, who works for Grimsby-based independent Scania specialist Moody International, said being a truck fitter was his chosen career, and that it would always come first. He said the comparatively small amount of television work he currently does is hard enough to fit in around his job and bike racing, and that presenting the show would mean changing his life altogether.

“Yes, you might earn squillions of pounds, but I earn enough here to keep me in push bikes,” he says. “I don’t want to live like a rock star. I drive a Transit van and a Volvo estate. Although having said my Snap-On tool bill is quite high though.”

Martin will be guest editing a special issue of Commercial Motor on December 17th.

Not surprising really. Such a down to earth and likeable guy (pun intended) he is more at home with working class guys down the pub than rubbing shoulders with BBC toffs.
His C4 programmes if continued are interesting enough.
TG filming has started and due to be aired from next May.

I also posted somewhere else but couldnt find it.. That may not turn out to be a bad strategy anyway.. TG is going to be strange without the 3 of them, thats a given.. It may or may not work in its new format.. Possibly he would tie himself to a sinking ship in that case..

GM is for sure one of my favorite TV personalities.. And part of why I like him, is also the fact that he appears to be a bit 'special'.. He just blurts out thoughts, hes very unflitered, you get the real GM not some manufactured persona.. People pick up on that realness, his india shows, off into the truck yards, meeting and talking, theres just something honest about him..

Those India shows were brilliant. I think you're spot on, it's his honesty that's so refreshing. I would have thought that the TV companies would be falling over themselves trying to find projects for him after those so maybe there is plenty in the pipeline for him without selling his soul to the BBC? I hope so, he's a real engaging character.
