Not really into the Premier league but it seems a bit crazy to give a guy a 6 year contract and let him go after less than one year. Surely when they gave him that 6 year contract they must have known it would have taken time to rebuild the squad and put his own stamp on it. Although the season went pretty bad by Man U's standards it was not beyond reason that they would win nothing nor qualify for Europe in a worst case scenario. However we live in a disposable society so maybe this is just another example.

Shouldn't sack him. Now Man Utd will be the next Chelsea. Wonder how many more "victims" of the Glazers.

Nonsense. 1st manager they have sacked and comparing to Chelsea ! When it became very very obvious the appointment was a huge mistake and the players were clearly not responding to the management it left him in an untenable position..
The job was far to big for him. He was almost like a rabbit in the headlights at times..

Agree that he looked very much out of his depth if body language is anything to go by.

I'm sure his £10 million or so will take the sting out of being fired. I thought it was the right appointment in all honesty but United have looked woeful this season. When City took a striker off to save United being further embarassed at Old Trafford it was the end really.

I think it could have been worse as it happens because Mourinho was probably second on their list and he's looked fairly silly on occasion this season too.

It will be something like that yes, he was on a six year contract so they will have to pay him well to go away

Ferguson should be taking a lot of the blame for this debacle. Moyes was his personal recommendation. He knew damn well that last seasons squad was not going to challenge for the title this season but did nothing about it during his final season. Moyes came in and took over an ageing squad and failed to improve it during the transfer window.
Too many players long past their best, younger players with not enough talent, and possibly friction between Moyes and some of the stars. No Champions league will lose them £25m in lost revenue, but with owners like the Glazers, that won't matter. Worst thing that ever happened for Utd was selling out to the Glazers who are in it only to line their own pockets. They don't give a flying one for the football.

Best all round to sack Moyes now. £10m compensation means he will never need to work again and Utd have the summer to sort out a top manager.
He is going to need far more than the BBC's £100m suggested transfer kitty too. Literally every position in that side needs strengthening IMO.

Difficult to fill the shoes of a guy who has been there so many years,
plus when he started he had a team over the top, a lot of players had to be replaced.
Continuety is not easy, it has to be planned over more than one year.

United should have probabaly kept Fergie on for another year with Moyes as his assistant. In hindsight the transition could have been planned much better, imo.

Playing football is just a sideline now , teams (brands !) are basically just business assets.

United shares, which trade on the New York Stock Exchange, were up more than 6.5 per cent at $18.80 at 1830 BST, signalling investor relief at the decision to sack Moyes.

Looks like the contract had a "get out" clause.

Moyes will depart with a substantial payoff, although the £5m he will receive was capped as a result of a clause that restricted him to 12 months'
Evening Standard had a bit more info.

He lost out on far more generous compensation through an “ ejector seat” clause in his six-year contract limiting his money to 12 months’ salary if the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.

    I wouldn't call a £5m payoff being "penalised". I'd call that a bonus.

^ hmmm. Wonder could he sue them? They kept saying they will give him time and that he had the full backing of the club. Get out the contract and send them a solicitors letter for the craic.
