I was looking today to see if I could see a cricket match while I am in India but they start 3 days after I leave!!

Ironically the same thing with baseball in Tokyo

And the biggest kick in the nuts
I have a chance to stand on the sidelines at one of the better Japanese soccer teams, my boss' cousin plays for them...but looks like they play at 7pm the night I land at 5:30pm !!

Cricket is one sport where you go to enjoy the company you are with... as about the only thing you can appreciate when there is the speed the bowlers bowl at... anything else is a vague blur in the distance.. 55

England thrashed by 111 runs........... as expected. Awful bowling at the end of Aus innings and a shite start meant there was no chance. Aussie century maker Finch dropped when on 0
England's most prolific batsman dropped to No 6, Morgan cops another duck, it was abysmal. Thank heavens for Taylor and Bell because without them this team is nothing.

Don't know how you can call it the World Cup. Maybe the former British Commonwealth Cup.

It is embarrassing. The former primitive colonials cup, would be more apt...

    Why is it embarrassing?

The sport was introduced and so many nations embraced it.

    More uplifting I would say

Not the sport. The name of the event. But then Rugby World Cup is just as bad...

Is it more embarrassing than when there is only one Country playing?

That then has to be the height of embarrassment.

Nothing wrong with the RWC because that is just what it is.

No, the most presumptuous and embarrassing is the "Rugby Championship" which is basically a three team tournament + the Argies to make up the numbers, home and away.

Why not the SH 4 Nations, same as our 6 Nations in the NH.

You could say the same for the "Champions Cup" too. I'm not defending any of the silly names... 4 Nations would have been fine with me...

Not understanding anything about cricket, in fact when I see it on tv i wonder am I really fluent in English after all. But I do think its great that the Irish team have made gradual real improvements over the past ten years or so. Whether it has the appeal if soccer or not is not really relevent they are the best teams in the world at what they do so they deserve to be there, baseball doesn't have huge world appeal either. Crickets appeal is limited by the weather and it has also suffered by its proponents liking it to be an exclusive sport, rugby suffered from this for a long time too. Even though soccer has vastly more appeal than rugby or cricket it always seems to be the old reliables when it comes to the end of the competitions?

Now could someone explain what a yorker is I've heard that word quite a lot over the past week or post an idiot's guide to cricket just in case Ireland get better.

Jeez... Don't Panic we could be here a while explaining all the idiosyncratic terminology

Essentially a yorker is a ball delivered close up to the batsmen's feet......bouncing right at his feet
