Patong High Season saved by Putin?

Putin has just decreed an end to Russian Charter Flights to Turkey after the shooting down of the Russian plane.
Currently 3,000,000 Russians are holidaying in Turkey on packages a year.

Many of these could end up in Phuket now that Turkey is off limits.

Patong is very quiet for this time of year and even an influx of Russians would be welcomed by the locals I think.

I heard that there are 40% less Western-Europeans. It is not the extra percentage of Chinese, Indians and young Australians that will make that good

    Not just Turkey either.............

In a second blow to Goa's tourism industry which was already reeling from a reduction in arrivals due to the devaluation of the rouble, India has been struck off the list of safe travel destinations recommended for Russian tourists

Get the beach scene functional, and the Euros will return… No amount of budget package Russians or Chinese tour busses can bring a return to the Patong of old. They can only turn the place into another Chinese toilet with Russian manners. I don't think that's what any of us want.

Imagine 10,000 Chinese tourists, all wearing rubber floatie-rings standing like penguins on every single square meter of beach sand…. Been to Phi-Phi recently?

We need a vibrant tourist economy, but competing for the bottom tier is not the way to get there. Unfortunately Thai hubris, greed, and politics stand in the way of all of this.

Saving Patong with Russians(Or Chinese) is somewhat akin to trying to save a cancer patient with chemotherapy. You inject poison into their system, hoping to kill the disease before you kill the person.

Not correct, the patient has a mental condition, not cancer. So whether or not the patient dies from the chemo, injecting it with toxic Chinese and poisonous Russians will never cure the disorder, just destroy the patients bowels and liver.
