    Customs/Immigration

So a friend of mine is asking me if I would bring him a carton of cigarettes from America..evidently, this one brand you can't get here...I have no problem doing it but was just wondering if anyone knows if there are any restrictions or guidelines, duty, or limits regarding what you can bring in with cigarettes.

Limit is 200 cigarettes...not sure how that relates to an American Carton...but I don't think they'd be bothered if there were say 12 packs of 20...

Don't take this as advice, but I regularly bring 4 times the limit of my favourite tobacco through Phuket Airport. Never had a problem.

OK a friend told me last night that ALL arrivals are required to have their bags x-rayed prior to leaving the arrivals hall at Phuket airport. Apparently this has been policy for about a month now.

Presumably to catch Customs violations, not find that midget that sneaked on the plane and into your bag.

They do that in BKK, no?
I don't see any issue at all with it

Takes a minute and actually happens in quite a few countries....Latin America I always have to do it

    never seen it before.
Besides, with the 2 x-ray machines they have in Phuket it will take more than a minute to check when to 777's arrive at the same time

The only issue I have is I will now have to tape 20 pouches of tobacco to my body Midnight Express style, which is going to make for an uncomfortable flight.

I typically bring back 6-8 cartons of my favorite smokes (Camel non-filter, not available here) from the States... One carton in each of my wife and my carry bags, and one carton in each of our checked bags, so 1 carton per piece of luggage, sometimes 2, done it many many times, NEVER been questioned...
