Where and when did it go wrong

I was thinking of posting this article in "what not to do when tourism is hurting" thread, but I think it's good enough yo start a new thread.
My apologizes if it's posted somewhere else.

It's pretty much spot on about all the scams that we've been seeing increase for the last 15-20 years.

Meh scams have been happening forever.. Crime and violent crime has been happening forever.. Its the publicity thats changed.

I do think theres a friendliness change in mass tourist areas, thats probably true.. But arrival numbers keep growing, so they keep adding more (shorter / cheaper) visitors to churn..

But I think the link to what happened in Spain, Greece and Turkey is spot on........The more tourists the more the locals forget about hospitality and how to preserve their beautiful places.

    As you say "spot on"

but I was amazed at the lack of politeness and common courtesy shown to us in Germany when we had difficulties with the language.
When someone was pleasant it was a noticeable difference from the norm.

Yes that what we love about the USA, the people are so damn nice, well out of the big cities they are.
Can't wait to get back there in 3 weeks time and feel our spending is appreciated.
