Video: Patong Night Life 2010, the Sequel (jrbazil)

Honest opinions, have you ever seen Patong look this much fun since 2010?

This is what drew me to Patong in the first place, and my first time there in 2011 was tons of fun, but ever since I've felt its just got more bland and static. Don't get me wrong I still love going and think its a great place, just not as great as it used to be.

I just absolutely love this video, it captures everything I want to do and really gets me in the mood.

Jay did a coupe of great vids on Bangla around this time and posted them on PI...he also posted some beauties on BKK/Nana/Cowboy, Samui/Tao and Phi Phi

TBH my favourite time on Bangla was just before and just after the Tsunami...its when nI discovered a whole bunch of guys who became real mates with MTB as the centre....as I explained elsewhere its when you discovered it and fell in love with the joint that you think it was at its peak...after a while it all becomes a bit same same no matter what era you are in

Same for me. 2004 - 2008 were some great times with fantastic memories.I have MTB, Nicke and lots of good friends to thank for that. I'm afraid a visit to Phuket doesn't fill me with any anticipation at all now and that is down to me getting too used to going to the same place, year after year. Taking a couple of years away does whet the appetite without a doubt for me.
    RIP Nicke June 1971 - Jan 2013.

Everyone is going to be different. if you ask any first or second timer how it is they will tell you its the best place on earth. going to the same place multiple times in the year will start to make it feel stale and boring.

after going for the first time in 2011 and now ill be on my 9th trip by feb. I still love the place but who knows after feb I may not love it as much. however I ike the idea of taking a break from the place for a year or two. let things change a bit new bars and other places to be built. then go back again and maybe fall in love with the place again.

not having a go at anyone but it really annoys me how people moan and whinge about a place changing. its simple if you don't like it don't go.

I know people's impressions can change over time and with frequency of visits, but look at the video and do you honestly see it being that much fun thesedays?

Yes I do - the music may have changed, the names of the bars, the sois and the clubs may have changed, and of course the girls. The crocodile may have changed for a lori, but, hell, yes, its the same the same packed clubs, girls still dance on bars, smile at farangs, drink, eat, dance. Patong is as much fun as you make it to be; and remember that video was made around Xmas. This year the sunset will still be there as will the jetskis, fireworks and parties.

M8 those bar sois used to be heaving, everyone of them. There weren't any families, couples or single white females. The place waas edgy as fock, pool parties, parties that lasted for days etc.........

Yes am sure you can still enjoy yourself and make the best of it but is deffo not even remotely the same place

Oh I agree that its not the same place as 2003, that was ten years ago, but we are comparing 2010 to 2013.

Without change would patong be what it is today?

Had everything not changed and it was still a place mainly where men would go to pick up thai girls would patong be the thriving tourist destination it is today? Change is inevitable and whether its for better or for worse in your opionion its clearly been better for the economy and the thai people that live there in particular.

I for one everytime i go there have an absoloute awesome time. I feel there arent many places in the world where people from all types of nationalities can come together and enjoy a drink with a complete stranger.

^^^ Yep, reality will always disappoint you if you keep comparing it to images in your head of how it should be. Whether they're in the past or imagined.

I'm fortunate enough not to have been around in the "good ole days", and so I love every minute I'm over there.

Yes, and I've seen a massive change in the bars since 2011 - and in my eyes that change has made it less fun. I do still have fun, it's just different fun - but I much prefer it like it was back then.

It's hard to nail down.. but my feeling is around the time New Tiger started opening and old Tiger burned down, after which all the other Sois/bars really got quiet.

Its the individual that changes most, the place changes and those in the now change with it. The dinosaurs that remember ten years back when they lived here as being best, compared to the now when they no longer live here, just don't realise they've changed and just simply no longer do what they did before, mainly cos they can't, there not here now. Its all still there, differences, but everything is still there to enjoy, but you've got to also make it happen, yes safari has closed, xyz bar has closed, but 7 new night clubs have opened, new bar area's have opened, late night bars, parties are still happening, girls are still dancing on the bar and fleecing the unsuspecting farangs. I think some times the dinosaurs forget that 10 years ago they were 10 years younger, ten years less experienced of Thailand.

I see the newbies every day, they are still loving everything it has to offer. I'm still finding enjoyment here, still having some of the best nights out, until the next best nights out!!!!

Please alert me the next time theres a gogo team strip-a-thon competition pool party like the valhalla glory days.. I will be there..

Really.. Those days were proper crazy, I will see if I cant dig out some old photos from the wayback engine.. maybe 100 half naked girls in the pool area with slides, fountains, hot tubs, saunas and discrete dark corners.... The viking helmet with its lockable trapdoor and porno on the TV... Getting drunk climbing the structures and doing death leaps into the 3 ft of water from the helmet or the waterfall..

Jans special in room "mini bar" with condoms, lube, viagra, a disposable camera, etc etc.. The back room with the floor that went up and the 'love swing'.. People rooting left right and center like the fall of Rome !! Similar but more low key could be found in the setup in Johns spa on Nanai.. I mean hell, Jan went to prison the parties were so wild !! You know how wild a place had to be back then to go to jail for it !!!

Tell me when thats happening Dodge ?? Cos it aint 'all still happening' !!

I think people are right, times do move on and of course things change sometimes for the good and sometimes not

I left Patong in 2005 and then was a regular visitor probably once per month up until 2011. Most people I know from through that period have left or dont go to Phuket anymore and get their jollies elsewhere; the primary reason being that Patong lost that edgy single guys place and has become a holiday resort for couples and families

I actually think the whole of Thailand is going the same way, Pattaya has the same issues with Walking Street as Patong, the only difference with Pattaya is the sheer scale means that there are a multitude of areas that still have the spice. Bangkok fun areas are now flooded with Indians and Arabs, most don't actually even go near the bars and the fun, so it's a bit of a bizarre mix to see hardcore muslims walking by pork barbeque stalls, women and ladbyoys offering themselves on the street and alcohol awash everywhere

Yeah but anyone with a villa with a non overlooked pool and some money can still make that happen.. It was the out and out public madness that isnt still there.

Maybe one time we should chip in and rent out the penthouse 'aqua-lair' and fill it with soi six girls ???

Think you hit the nail there, its simply different people who travel down there these days,if the name of the places are beer-garden or Buffalo bar,who cares ? its the people you meet in that bar who is the big change and cant be reverted
Nobody is a social drinker. Everybody drinks to get drunk. I mean, nobody drinks 10 pints of coke in a night
