Think AIS still is the best ......you get 3G in most towns these days.

True has 4G now I think, but its not everywhere..

AIS / 12Call is the best coverage.. Pretty cheap also..

As far as cost it, I believe, it is DTAC.
I have a Thai friend who is both smart and resourceful.
She has 3 SIM cards (phones)
AIS: Least expensive in-country, best signal and best promotions. 50 baht buys her unlimited calls for a week.
True: Least expensive international call. 1 cent per min for all US/Canada phones and 1 cent to most farang land lines.
DTAC: for internet tethered to the computer

AIS / 1 2 CALL is the best.. i had a true simcard as its all they had in the shop close to my hotel all when i was in a go go bar i never had any signal, AIS / 1 2 CALL was recommend by all the BGs and worked like a dream. you can subscribe to a data package for around 100 - 200 baht a week, which gives you unlimited 3G. which is what i did and worked like a dream..

A couple of web pages giving dial codes for the various packages on True and 1-2-call (AIS) you may want to bookmark.

You need to enter a username etc into the data account settings, took me a while to find it out. As the AIS website wasn't working, you should be able to get them to send you a settings file, but i did it manually and it worked fine..

Go into your settings. click on Mobile Data. Go to Access point names and create a new one, top right hand corner.

    Name: AIS GPRS Internet
    APN: internet

the rest were all left unmodified, try that and see how you get on.

Double checked with google seems like that should work.
