Happy SongKran.......what are you going to do????

I'm going to lock myself inside the house to avoid the madness. Good food and movies for me. No more ear/eye infections, got totally fed up with it after the 5 days riots it used to be in Patong in the old days.
Heard it's even worse up north, so are you guys hiding or are you enjoying it?
I have a 70ish year old neighbor that loves it tho.......but most expats I know around are escaping it.................................

I have a housebound patient with a broken leg.. She would normally be mad keen and never gets bored.. Me?? Meh..

I am 50/50 on doing a BBQ pool party.. Few folks half mentioned it to but not decided if I can be bothered.. Enjoy having a pool day sometimes and all, but feeding 15 - 20 or so ?? will see if I feel keen.

Need to decide tomorrow really as it will mean major shopping.

Ohh I am sure everyone will chip in if asked.. But you cant do it bit by bit.. You bring this, you bring that.. Its not an armish barn raising.. Its men and meat and fire..

Just need to go out and lay in provisions, meat, spuds, and booze..

In fact its not even that, its that the BBQ is sized where you can feed about 6 or 8 people in a go.. If people start bringing kids and families, then it gets one of those all day at the grill deals. Still theres worse ways to spend a sunday.

It's just the one day here thank fuck....usually kicks off around midday and ends by 10pm...its bad form to wet anyone after that

I'll be doing my usual lunch and swim at the beach then leave the togs on for a trip around my usual bars so all the BGs I know (and have known 555) over the last couple of years can give me a darn good "wetting" in return....

Will definitely be different in Patong this year !

Phuket officials prepare for Songkran with alcohol-free play zones

The announcement made it clear that the sale, purchase and consumption of alcohol will be banned within the Phuket water play zones and there will be no exception for any famous area, including, of course, Patong’s Soi Bangla, on April 13. The alcohol-free water-play zones are part of a slew of new precautions to make the 2014 Thai New Year festivities safer.

“Alcohol may not be conveyed into the areas, sold in the areas, or consumed there,” he added.

Police warn that those breaking Songkran alcohol rules will face imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of 10,000 baht, or both.

“The ban on the sale, purchase and consumption of alcohol in water play zones will be effective from 8am on April 13 to 6am on April 14,” he stated.

I tried to avoid it like the plague in Chiang Mai. Zero interest in it. Glad to be working now and thus avoiding it this year.

There was a story out not too long back about the water in CM being too dirty for it. Last year the she-wok went out with a friend and her daughter and did the social Songkran thing for 3-4 hours. The next day all of them broke out in rashes. So I agree... the water is obviously too dirty for it. I avoided that by staying home... as Sef says, ya stock up and hope you dont need to go out for anything. It's the one time I wish we lived somewhere like Hua Hin or Samui where it only lasts a day.

Will aim to make this the last Songkran in Thailand.
