New Mall Alert: Negotiate with diplomacy at Central Embassy

Just how many centers can a city have?

At least one more, as the Central Embassy shopping mall opens its doors tomorrow on the site of an embassy’s former gardens in a new 40-story development anchored by the shopping mall and a Park Hyatt hotel.

This is good news for shoppers, who’ve had to wait nearly three months for a new mall to open since Mercury Ville opened just a few steps away.

Yes, in case you haven’t seen the new mall, it’s on Ploenchit Road, right in front of British Embassy, next to Central Chidlom and BTS Ploenchit.

Taking eight stories of the building, Central Embassy aims to be the latest Asian shopping landmark on a street crowded with such monumental malls.

Over THB18 billion was invested in the project, and the mall conveniently gathers into one place famous restaurants and top-shelf fashion stores such as Chanel, Miu Miu, Christian Louboutin and Hermes.

To maximize its fanciness, the mall will also have a first-class cinema “The Embassy Diplomat Screens,” which has five screens and butlers on hand to serve movie-goers. Totally serious.

    Ticket prices? THB1,000 - 1,500.

Could it prove one mall too many for Sukhumvit Road? No, says Chad Chirathivat, mall project managing director, as the mall expects 50,000 - 60,000 customers daily, Kapook reported.
